Men catching on to plastic surgery loans

A new study has found that increasing numbers of men are opting to fund cosmetic surgery with the help of a loan.

Figures from Sainsbury's Bank indicate that around £5 million in loans will be taken out this year to fund plastic surgery and that a fifth of this figure will be contributed by men.

Statistics from Mintel suggest that cosmetic surgery in the UK has seen 240 per cent growth in the past five years and that a million procedures will take place in Britain in 2009.

Steven Bailie, loans manager at Sainsbury's Bank, remarked: "As it [cosmetic surgery] becomes less taboo for many people, a growing number of men and women may be looking to improve their looks and fund this with loans.

"However these procedures can be costly and for those that take out a loan to pay for treatment, it is important to shop around for a competitive rate."

The average loan for cosmetic surgery comes to £6,000, Sainsbury's claims.
