Shoppers wish good will to all men

A new breed of ethically minded Christmas shopper is emerging, claims new research.

A study, undertaken by 72 Point on behalf of Friends Provident, has discovered that a third of Britons are intent on giving ethical presents this year, indicating that good will to all men extends to all parts of the globe and beyond.

Charity Christmas cards are the most popular form of ethical gift with British consumers, although organic and ethically produced clothing and food are also set to be common.

Almost three in five Brits believe that people are considering ethical matters more this Christmas than in past years.

Julia Dreblow, the socially responsible investment marketing manager at Friends Provident's, commented: "This is a timely piece of research – adding to the consensus that people are definitely becoming more ethically astute when it comes to what they’re buying, eating and wearing."

The 2005 Boxing Day tsunami saw tens of thousands of people contribute money and supplies to the people of Thailand and neighbouring areas.
