Santa splashes out in Wales

New figures indicate that Santa favours bestowing gifts on Welsh children above all others in the UK.

Research from Liverpool Victoria indicates that parents fork out an average of £262 on each of their children throughout the UK, although Welsh mums and dads expect to treat each child to £594 worth in gifts.

While parents splash the cash, children's expectations of what will be spent on them is lower than will actually be the case, at an average of £167 throughout Britain.

Nigel Snell, Liverpool Victoria’s corporate communications director, commented: "Whatever the spend, Christmas is an expensive time and saving a little and often throughout the year will help to pay off those yuletide bills," a reminder that a small loan may be worth taking out to see parents through in to the new year.

Londoners were found to be the stingiest at Christmas, spending an average of £158 per child.
