Brits splash out for season of giving
Christmas really is the season for giving, according to the latest research.
The majority of Britons claim they gave more than they received this Christmas, but more than four in five told Moneysupermarket.com that they were happy with this.
Just one in ten admitted they were annoyed with their haul of presents come Christmas morning, complaining that they spent more on presents than they received.
On the flipside, one in ten claimed they were "net winners" and half admitted they were secretly happy with the result.
Richard Mason, director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said: "It looks like Brits have certainly embraced the festive spirit with the majority of people getting more pleasure from giving than receiving.
"The majority of Brits seem to have splashed out on friends and family this year while a small number are stewing over their leftover turkey and wondering why they bothered spending so much."
However, despite a flurry of generous present giving, Britons it appears still want more, with spending in the January sales expected to hit a new high.
