Brits dreaming of sunnier climes

Christmas may only be a distant memory, but Britons are already dreaming of their next escape from the office.

According to Sainsbury's Bank, 15.44 million people intend to book a holiday by the end of February 2007.

Londoners and those in the Midlands are the keenest to get away, with 36 per cent planning to book a trip between Christmas 2006 and February 2007, while the Welsh trail behind on 28 per cent.

On average, Britons will spend £677 per person on their trip, but one in five will shell out over £1,000.

However, Sainsbury's Bank is urging people not to forget the practical issues amid the excitement of potential escape.

Robert O'May, travel insurance manager, Sainsbury's Bank said: "At this time of year when people are planning their next trip it's easy to get excited about destinations, resorts and even flights but travel insurance may seem a little mundane.

"It's worth remembering that shopping around for insurance is just as important as you could save against travel agent prices."

The company claims that many people appear to be ignoring the advice to shop around for the best travel insurance deal, with 12 per cent of those surveyed planning to buy insurance from their travel agent.
