Parents forking out for kids' insurance claims
Teenagers decking themselves out in the latest piece of designer jewellery or must-have gadget are proving a headache for their parents.
According to Cornhill Insurance, three in ten teenagers admit they regularly lose their gadgets or are the victims of theft.
With teenagers walking the streets wearing goods worth £768, including more than £300 in highly-stealable items such as wallets, MP3 players and watches, parents are increasingly vulnerable to a hefty insurance claim.
Mark Bishop, spokesman for Cornhill Direct, said: "Young teenagers travelling alone are particularly vulnerable to thieves and muggers."
He added: "Leaving the house wearing expensive jewellery and using an MP3 player might attract attention but not necessarily the sort a teenager is looking for in the shape of thieves and muggers."
However, not all the burden is on parents, as half told Cornhill that their teenagers save up for expensive gadgets out of their own money.
