Flood victims eligible for tax relief
Homeowners that were flooded during the recent severe weather could be eligible for tax relief.
Perth and Kinross council states that many of its residents could be eligible for council tax relief, especially those undertaking property development.
It is advising flooded residents to contact the council if; the property is unoccupied, undergoing major repair work to make it habitable, no more than 12 months have elapsed since it was last occupied or no more than six months have passed since repairs were completed.
Councillor Ian Miller, deputy leader of Perth & Kinross Council, said: "We would encourage flood victims whose homes have been damaged to contact us.
"Qualification depends on certain criteria, but any resident wishing to discuss it can call our Local Taxes team on 01738 477430. Each case is assessed on an individual basis.
"We have already had several enquiries about tax relief from victims of the recent floods, and these are being processed."
Flooded homeowners in other areas should contact their own councils to see if similar help is available.
Abbey estimates that up to 620,000 claims are made each year for storm-related damage, including flood, at an average cost of £522.
