Debtors 'should seek expert advice'
People who are struggling with debt should seek advice from experts, according to a consumer group.
The Finance and Leasing Association (FLA) stated that channels of advice are available as long as those in debt take the time to look.
Organisations such as Citizens Advice, National Debt Line and the Consumer Credit Counselling Service were cited as good places for debtors to seek help.
Helen Saxon, spokesperson for the FLA, also recommended that people look at their own finances to see where they are going wrong.
She advised those in debt to make a budget of all their outgoings and see where any cutbacks could be made.
Ms Saxon went on to issue a warning to people seeking to resolve their debts through consolidation, saying that people need to be careful they do not run up the debt again and can afford to pay it off.
Six million UK borrowers have turned to consolidation loans as the solution to their growing debts, according to research by MoneyExpert.com.
