Bank holiday shoppers told not to make impulse buys

Bank holiday shoppers have been urged not to make impulse purchases of furniture this weekend.

Consumer Direct called on people to think carefully before making any expensive purchases, as those who buy straight away could encounter unforeseen circumstances.

The firm warned that many consumers tend to buy furniture without measuring the dimensions of their properties.

This means that some will find they are not able to fit their new purchase through the front door and into its intended space.

Carol Brady, operations manager at Consumer Direct, said: "Buying furniture on impulse can be particularly troublesome.

"If you buy a sofa and then realise it won't fit through your front door you have no automatic right to a refund."

This follows another recent warning regarding the Easter bank holiday from price comparison site Moneysupermarket.com

The site urged those undertaking DIY work over the bank holiday weekend to make sure they are insured in case of any accidents in the home.
