Extensions 'can add to house value'
People living in highly sought-after residential areas have been advised to consider adding an extension to their property.
Rightmove stated that adding extensions such as an extra floor could boost the value of a house if it is in an area that is experiencing great demand.
However, the firm added that if the property is already at the top end of the market and has no more room for growth then building an extension can be inadvisable.
Maud Rousseau, spokesperson for the firm, also recommended that anyone considering an extension should ensure that all legal requirements are carried out.
She said: "When you are planning a loft conversion, you obviously have to consider the neighbours and you have to always apply to the council for any new building work on your home."
Homeowners who are planning to make major home improvements were recently advised to consider funding it with a personal loan.
Alliance & Leicester advised that taking out a personal loan could be a more affordable way of funding the renovation than remortgaging a house.
