Summer drivers advised to take care
One insurer has challenged the idea that driving in summer is less dangerous than winter, while highlighting the importance of safe motoring in countryside areas.
According to rural insurance company NFU Mutual, 40 per cent of claims on its car policies occur during the warmer months, while there is no significant difference between the number of claims made during the summer and winter periods.
In fact, the UK's roads may be more dangerous during the summertime as an increased number of drivers look to take advantage of the good weather, the firm stated, with motorists advised not be "complacent" and assume that driving conditions are necessarily better.
"Rural roads in particular can pose a threat as people may be tempted to put their foot down when they see a clear road ahead," NFU Mutual's Laura Wood said.
"Above all, you should always ensure that you have full insurance as accidents do happen, regardless of the preparations you may take," she added.
Eco-friendly car insurance is becoming more widely available and affordable, Moneysupermarket.com has announced, with several insurers offering policies which offset a percentage of vehicle carbon emissions.
