Daredevil holidaymakers "may not be covered"
People who enjoy dangerous or impulsive activities when on holiday have been advised to check their travel insurance policy before engaging in any extreme pursuits.
According to price comparison website Moneysupermarket.com, the number of Britons indulging in thrill-seeking escapades abroad is growing, with half of all UK holidaymakers claiming to have recently partaken in activities such as bungee jumping or white-water rafting.
However, most insurers classify these pastimes as dangerous sports and will not cover them in their standard travel policies, meaning many tourists could be unwillingly taking major risks, the company has warned.
"Read the small print to give you peace of mind and make sure you are covered for any eventuality," advised Richard Mason, director of insurance at Moneysupermarket.com.
"You need to think about the specific activities you want insurance for as well as the level of cover you need before shopping around for the best value policy for you," he added.
A report by Halifax Travel Insurance has stated that many Brits fail to understand the requirements of their holiday insurance policies, with 20 per cent of people unaware that a police report is needed to validate a claim for theft.
