Homeowners assess flood damage
Britons are beginning to look at the damage caused by recent floods and put in claims on their home insurance.
According to Abbey Home Insurance, up to 8,600 claims were sent off yesterday (June 25th) as a result of heavy rains across the UK.
About 3,200 flood damage claims were made, while 5,100 storm damage claims and 210 lightning damage claims were also logged with insurers in just one day.
However, the firm warned that about 257,000 claims are rejected every year due to under-insurance - potentially meaning that some Britons are likely to use loans to pay for repairs to their properties.
Prasad Shastri, head of insurance marketing at Abbey, advised homeowners to look at the damage caused by the adverse weather as soon as possible.
"Although warnings were issued that there could be potential flooding, the scale of the damage has come as quite a shock," he said.
"Many people will be looking to make claims on their home insurance."
Price comparison Moneysupermarket.com has also said homeowners living in areas that are particularly prone to flooding should take extra care over ensuring that they are adequately covered for potential damage.
