Cost of looking for love revealed
New research has unveiled the true cost of living the single life in the UK.
According to a survey by MoneyExpert.com, the average British singleton spends £88 each month out on the town in search of love, meaning many people are spending over £1,000 a year looking for their perfect partner.
The financial comparison site also found that men spend almost £30 more than women on dates each month, proving that chivalry is not dead, while London is named the most expensive place for romantic encounters, with people in the capital spending a monthly average of £108.30 on dates.
Sean Gardner, chief executive of MoneyExpert, said: "The modern singleton must be prepared to fork out hundreds of pounds to find love as people get ever more extravagant in their expectations and their spending."
"But when love is in the air it's understandably difficult to keep track of costs," he added.
The findings suggest that love-struck singletons may need to use personal loans to supplement their income when the financial demands of the dating game begin to take their toll.
Earlier this week, a survey by Abbey Current Accounts revealed that the UK's parents will spend an average of £741 on entertaining their children this summer.
