Holidaymakers failing to insure their caravans
While a week or two in a caravan may be an enduringly popular method of summer relaxation for many Brits, a large number of them are going away without insurance, it has emerged.
According to research from Towergate Bakers, caravan holidays account for nearly 20 per cent of the vacations taken in the UK, with 28 per cent of caravan owners not bothering to insure their vehicles.
The insurance intermediary has stated that although caravan insurance may not be compulsory, failing to obtain cover could prove to be a "false economy", as an accident could leave users badly exposed if they cause damage to another vehicle or property.
"Love them or hate them, it is clear that caravans are becoming increasingly popular," said Dave Sheath, managing director at the firm.
"We would urge caravanners everywhere to be responsible and take out insurance," he added.
Caravan owners who are having difficulty juggling the costs of running their vehicle and purchasing insurance may like to consider a personal loan - a recent survey by Alliance & Leicester found that money for motoring expenses is the main reason for loan applications in the UK.
