Extra costs driving up car insurance premiums
Insurance companies are having to foot the bill for extra costs which is pushing up the price of car insurance for motorists, it has been claimed.
The AA has said that additional expenses such as ambulance fees, vehicle retrieval costs and personal injury claims are combining to make car insurance more expensive for drivers in the UK.
Another contributor to rising premiums is the fact that victims of car theft are charged a substantial fee by the police to retrieve their vehicle from the pound, a spokesperson for the motoring services company said.
"There are lots of extra costs. Ultimately it's the insurance company that picks these fees up," said AA spokesperson Ian Crowder.
"On the positive, the car insurance industry is extremely competitive so there are always deals to be had," he added.
Personal loans can help with the cost of driving - recent research by Alliance and Leicester revealed that 25 per cent of Britons have taken out a loan to pay for a used car.
