Couples get "piece of mind" with wedding insurance

With more money than ever before being spent on getting married, an increasing number of UK couples are opting to take out wedding insurance.

According to M&S Money, weddings are becoming more extravagant and expensive while more venues are insisting on public liability cover and large deposits, meaning many couples do not feel comfortable without insurance.

The main occurrences for which wedding insurance provides cover are cancellation or rearrangement, public liability, loss or damage and photographs having to be retaken, M&S Money revealed.

"A lot of people start planning the wedding one or two years in advance and the venue is usually the first thing you book, so it can be really quite a serious outlay," said Liz Neild, the company's media relations manager.

"The deposit of a venue can be quite sizeable as well, so there's definitely a peace of mind element to it as well," she added.

Financial difficulties can continue after marriage, with a survey by Halifax recently finding that young British parents spend an average of £2,628 on furnishings and decoration for their child's nursery - personal loans can help people deal with these expenses.
