Gardens at risk from floods
As Britain suffers under the worst flooding it has seen in decades, Defaqto has reminded homeowners that some of their garden equipment may not be covered by their insurance policy.
Under many policies some garden items are not covered, making it very important that homeowners read the fine print on all their policies.
Damage caused by floods to gates, hedges and fences is also often not covered by policies, Defaqto warned.
Defaqto researcher, Mel Gray said: "Approximately 10 per cent of contents insurance policies currently exclude flood damage to 'contents in the open.'"
Garden furniture, childrens' bikes, trampolines, inflatable pools, garden nomes and other items are at risk.
Any damage to a garden's plants is also usually not covered by home insurance policies. However, the amount for the policies that do cover damage to plants usually ranges from £1,000 to £5,000.
Personal loans can help to repair damaged gardens not covered by insurance policies.
