Car buyers 'lack confidence' at dealerships
Many British consumers experience feelings of anxiety when looking to purchase a used car, according to new research.
A study by AA Insurance has revealed that 80 per cent of people would never use an independent dealer to find a car, primarily because of the fear of being sold an unsuitable vehicle or overpaying due to a pushy salesman.
In addition, 59 per cent of consumers said that they found all car salesmen untrustworthy, while 54 per cent claimed that their distrust was caused by not knowing what to look for.
"Purchasing a car can be intimidating for many people, especially if they encounter up-selling and are not sure of what to look for or what questions to ask the dealer," said head of AA Car Insurance Janet Pell.
"Before you buy, it's really important to do your homework and make sure you know what you want, what you're willing to pay and key things to check for to ensure you feel confident on the forecourt," she added.
August is one of the peak months for motor loan applications, Halifax stated recently. Using a personal loan is a traditionally popular way of funding a car purchase.
