Travel insurance 'always worth it'
Holidaymakers have been advised to always obtain a travel insurance policy when going abroad, even if they are only travelling a relatively short distance.
According to the Association of British Insurers (ABI), many UK travellers mistakenly believe that getting insurance is "not worth it" when visiting nearby countries such as France for short periods.
However, with the rugby World Cup beginning across the Channel this weekend, the organisation has warned travellers that insurance is necessary "whenever you're travelling abroad", as there is always a risk of losing possessions or needing medical assistance.
"There is always a risk of needing medical treatment wherever you are in the world," said an ABI spokesperson.
He added that the loss of personal items can potentially "ruin any holiday" and that "it doesn't matter what you're doing", travellers should still invest in an insurance policy.
This week, the ABI has also advised rugby fans to check their car insurance policies before driving to France. A personal loan can help towards insurance costs.
