Motorists 'bend the truth' with insurance
Many drivers fail to inform their insurer when given points on their licence for speeding and run the risk of invalidating their policy, it has emerged.
According to research from Confused.com, 21 per cent of motorists would not inform their insurance provider if they received penalty points on their licence, despite the fact that 96 per cent claim to realise that such behaviour could render a policy invalid.
The price comparison website is therefore urging drivers not to be economical with the truth and immediately notify their insurer of any changes to their situation, no matter how small.
"Changes in job title or annual mileage may seem insignificant to most drivers, but this can significantly affect your premiums," commented Debra Williams, managing director at Confused.com.
"If you are caught lying about your details, your insurer can reduce your pay out and may even refuse to pay at all," she added.
The Association of British Insurers recently advised rugby fans driving to the World Cup in France this month to check their motor insurance policies. A personal loan can help people to handle insurance costs.
