Survey highlights bad driving habits
Eating and drinking while behind the wheel of a car is the most frequent dangerous driving habit, according to new research.
Some 41 per cent of motorists admitted doing this during July, a study from Sainsbury's Bank suggests.
Other dangerous motoring habits uncovered in the survey include driving with flip-flops and taking control of a vehicle while tired.
Lucy Hunter, Sainsbury's Car Insurance manager, said: "It can be easy to become complacent behind the wheel of a car especially when driving regular routes but our advice is to stay alert and safe and don't allow yourself to be distracted."
"Just one mistake could have terrible consequences," she added.
The survey also highlights the value of having the correct car insurance.
Recent research from UK Mobile Telecommunications and Health Research found that driving while on the phone, either via a handset or hands-free device, is dangerous because it increases the demand on the cognitive resources.
