Motoring costs 'rising'
New research has revealed the growing cost of running a car on the UK's roads.
According to a study by Sainsbury's Bank, the annual cost of driving has increased by 2.6 per cent on last year and now stands at £2,259 - a figure which is ten per cent higher than in 2005.
This cost takes into account money spent on insurance, tax, fuel, servicing, MOT and roadside assistance, with the bank urging motorists to be savvy and shop around for certain products in order to keep driving expenses as low as possible.
Manager at Sainsbury's Car Insurance Joanne Mallon commented: "The cost of motoring can be high but it is possible to keep it in check by, for example, shopping around for car insurance and fuel."
Ms Mallon also encouraged consumers to save money when purchasing a car by negotiating with dealers over the price.
Sainsbury's Bank recently identified car purchases as one of the most common reasons for personal loan applications, along with debt consolidation and home improvements.
