Wedding costs 'spiralling' in UK

British couples planning to get married in the near future have been advised to start thinking about their financial situation sooner rather than later.

According to F&C Investments, tying the knot in the UK is now "a very expensive business", with ceremonies becoming more lavish as people look to emulate the high-profile weddings of celebrity couples.

The investment firm stated that the average cost of a wedding in the country is now about £11,000, with a typical reception costing £4,250, meaning that it is increasingly important for couples to plan carefully for their big day.

Head of group communications for F&C Jason Hollands commented: "Gone are the days of a buffet at the village hall followed by a honeymoon caravanning on the Cornish coast.

"The financial burden means that many couples, some of whom are already struggling with mortgage repayments, can feel under a lot of stress."

Approximately 70 per cent of all British weddings take place between June and November, Defaqto has stated. A personal loan could help to fund a wedding and honeymoon.
