Scotland 'cheapest for car insurance'
New research has revealed that drivers in Scotland are currently enjoying the lowest car insurance premiums in the UK.
A survey by Moneysupermarket.com found that the cities of Dundee and Aberdeen have the cheapest average quotes, while east London was the location of the most expensive insurance, with drivers in the capital paying about £200 more than their Scottish counterparts.
The north-west of England was also discovered to be an expensive area for motorists, with annual premiums in Bolton, Manchester and Liverpool coming in at the higher end of the spectrum.
"It is not surprising premiums are high in the inner city area of east London, where crime can be prevalent," said Richard Mason, director of insurance at the price comparison website.
"The gap between the most expensive and cheapest insurance areas is likely to widen as providers continue to load premiums in big city areas and urban areas considered to be 'at risk'," he added.
According to the AA's latest insurance index, the average premium for third party fire and theft policies rose by 3.57 per cent over the last quarter of the year. Motoring costs can be made more manageable with a personal loan.
