Brits 'spend hundreds on holiday items'
Holidaying Britons spend hundreds of pounds on accessories for their trips to foreign climes, according to new research.
On average Brits will spend £700 on preparing for their holidays, the research from moneysupermarket.com discovered. This is on top of the average £1,400 spent on crucial factors like travel, accommodation, food and drink.
Once abroad, the typical Brit will spend up to £100 on souvenirs, gifts and so forth.
Richard Mason, director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said: "It is astounding that consumers will shell out many hundreds of pounds on top of their main costs to prepare for their holidays; however they will not pay to cover themselves in the unfortunate event of injury or theft."
Those going on holiday should not regard holiday insurance as an "extra", Mr Mason added.
Last year Spain was the most popular destination for Brits going on holiday, according to research from Sainsbury's. A personal loan can contribute to travel costs.
