Holiday motorists given insurance advice
British drivers planning to take their cars abroad this winter have been warned that setting off unprepared could result in a major insurance headache.
Price comparison side Insurancewide.com advised motorists going away on skiing holidays or other foreign excursions to make sure that they are covered in the event of an accident or breakdown on another country's roads.
According to the company, many insurers will impose an annual limit on the number of days a car can be used abroad, while some providers will only offer third party cover for driving overseas, even if the original policy is fully comprehensive.
James Harrison, chief executive at Insurancewide.com, stated: "If you want the same level of cover as you have in the UK, call your insurer to discuss your options before you go.
"Compare the market carefully and be clear what you want to be covered for before you buy - don't blindly make do with the cheapest policy going."
Motorists will soon be able to receive their insurance certificate by email, under new measures outlined recently by road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick. Insurance costs can be made more manageable with a personal loan.
