Smaller cars 'growing in popularity'
New research has shown that small cars now have an extremely big presence on the UK's roads.
According to the latest used car sales figures from Experian, the 'super mini' is now the most popular type of vehicle among the nation's second-hand car buyers.
The data reveals that sales of super minis - a category which includes such models as the Ford Fiesta and Nissan Micra - were 0.2 per cent higher than those of family cars such as the Vauxhall Astra and Ford Focus.
Managing director of Experian's automotive division Kirk Fletcher said that the findings were "not surprising" given a combination of factors which are steering motorists towards super minis.
"With growing levels of personal debt, higher running costs, increasing tax and pressures to reduce our impact on the environment, the benefits of a smaller car are becoming more apparent to car buyers," he commented.
Road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick recently revealed plans for car owners to receive their insurance certificates via email. A personal loan can be useful for dealing with motoring costs.
