UK motorists 'need cleaner cars'

New research has claimed that Britain's roads are full of dirty cars.

According to the survey by LV=, only 11 per cent of the UK's drivers clean and tidy their cars once a week or more frequently, with 24 million motorists driving around the country in dirty and cluttered vehicles.

The research also indicates that such negligence could be dangerous, as many people are taking to the roads with unclean windscreens, wing mirrors and headlights.

Failure to keep such important parts of the car free from dirt could increase the chance of having an accident, while loose possessions and rubbish kept inside the vehicle is also a potential hazard for drivers, the insurance firm stated.

LV= spokesperson Emma Holyer said: "Making sure that your windscreen, lights and mirrors are clean before setting off on a journey should be second nature to motorists.

"Cleaning out your car frequently is not only easier on the eye, but safer and easier on the pocket too."

A recent report from Experian revealed that 'super minis' have replaced larger family cars as the most popular type of vehicle on UK roads.

Personal loans can be used to help meet the cost of motoring.
