Christmas period sees online shopping boom
The internet is becoming an increasingly important tool for the nation's Christmas shoppers, a study has revealed.
According to UK payments association Apacs, the total amount spent online by British consumers this December will exceed £5 billion, with 30 million people now turning to the computer for their shopping needs.
The organisation stated that Monday December 3rd is expected to be the busiest day for buying festive items online, as many people do their shopping in advance to make sure their purchases are delivered well before Christmas Day.
"More and more of us are buying our Christmas presents online and the evidence suggests we like to do so about three weeks before the big day to ensure they are delivered on time," said Apacs director of communications Sandra Quinn.
"The internet allows us to take the stress out of Christmas shopping, but it's important that people take steps to protect themselves," she added.
Equifax recently urged consumers to use security-enhanced computers when conducting transactions online. A personal loan can make the cost of Christmas more manageable.
