Winter sports 'too risky without cover'
British holidaymakers have been urged not to put themselves at risk this winter by engaging in hazardous sports without a suitable insurance policy.
According to Insurancewide.com, many people simply arrange basic travel cover before heading off on a skiing or snowboarding trip, despite the fact that such activities often require a specialist policy.
The price comparison site has urged those taking to the slopes this season to check their insurance carefully before going abroad and make sure that they are equipped with adequate cover.
"Cheap travel insurance is not hard to find but consumers need to understand where to look and what they're looking for," said Insurancewide.com chief executive James Harrison.
"Too many winter sports enthusiasts are buying standard travel insurance as a last-minute thought, without knowing what cover they actually need and without paying attention to what's excluded from the policy," he added.
A recent report from Halifax Travel Insurance claimed that ten per cent of last year's winter holidaymakers were physically unprepared for skiing and sustained injuries as a result. A personal loan can be put towards travel costs.
