Brits urged to be smarter shoppers this Christmas
British shoppers have been advised to plan their spending carefully before hitting the high street this Christmas.
In order to prevent a "financial hangover" at the start of 2008, consumers should avoid buying unnecessary items that will be discarded as soon as the festive period is over, Callcredit stated.
The credit reference agency also advised people against making "panic buys" in the run-up to Christmas Day or overspending on discounted goods, as well as stressing the importance of shopping around for the best deals on presents.
"With Christmas costing the average person more money year-on-year, we should all take time to make sure our Christmas spending doesn't leave us with a financial hangover in the new year," said Owen Roberts, head of the agency's consumer arm MyCallcredit.
The average Briton will spend £400 on presents this Christmas, research from Halifax has stated. Personal loans can help to ease the financial burden of this time of year.
