Homeowners warned over 'vulnerable' Xmas property
The UK's property owners have been urged to check their home security and insurance policy before going away this Christmas.
With one in five Britons making travel plans for the festive period, Halifax Home Insurance has warned people not to leave their houses vulnerable to opportunistic thieves this year.
A survey by the insurer found that although 34 per cent of people were worried about break-ins this Christmas, only 19 per cent made plans to improve their home security before setting off on a seasonal break.
Marty Foulds, senior claims manager at Halifax Home Insurance, said: "At Christmas it's easy to get caught up in the excitement of the season and forget about home security.
"However, we all know there are criminals who see this time of the year as providing them with rich pickings."
A recent survey by Sainsbury's Finance found that ten per cent of Brits have neglected to get their home contents insured as a way of saving money.
