'Tis the season for car breakdowns
The first day of work for most people, January 2nd, is the day most likely for cars to breakdown, new research has revealed.
The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has disclosed that car trouble increases by 15 per cent compared with other months during Christmastime, according to Green Flag data.
Cars that will not start after they have been sat out in the cold for days while people spend time with their families over Christmas are the most common reason for call outs, according to the breakdown assistance provider.
People's plans may be disrupted by car failure, Abi Clark, spokesperson for Green Flag, commented.
"Icy conditions and wet, cold weather means that cars are far more likely to break down in winter," she said.
"Batteries fail more often in these conditions and the increases use of de-misters, heaters and windscreen wipers places an extra strain on them."
Green Flag research also showed recently that waiting in traffic jams is one of the biggest time wasters for UK people.
