Christmas Eve shopping to cost £1.5 million a minute
The rush to get presents this Christmas Eve is set to cost consumers £2.14 billion.
A study conducted by research company TNS for Sainsbury's Bank has shown that over 19 million people will be doing their last minute shopping today.
The north-east, Yorkshire and Humberside are expected to see the biggest rush to the high street this Christmas with 18 per cent of their presents being bought today
Donald MacLeod of Sainsbury's said: "It looks like the shops are going to be busy on Christmas Eve as a lot of people intend to do a significant part of their shopping then. Our research would indicate that the overall spend in the Christmas Eve rush is going to be considerably up on last year's."
Sainsbury's research recently revealed that over £10 billion will be withdrawn from ATMs this December, representing the highest monthly withdrawal on record.
