Car breakdowns increase today

Motorists are more likely to break down today than any other day in the year, research has revealed.

January 2nd is the first day back at work for most people after the Christmas break and may also be the first car breakdown of the year, Britannia has said.

Statistics disclosed by the building society have said that drivers are two-thirds or 63 per cent more likely to break down today.

Andrew Beard, spokesperson for Britannia, said: "Motorists returning to work on January 2nd could face a difficult journey.

"As well as the possibility of poor weather conditions and heavy traffic, there is the added risk of cars failing to start or breaking down as many more cars than usual will have been idle over the Christmas period."

Having car breakdown cover can help alleviate the stress of a breakdown however, Britannia has advised.

The stress of a car breakdown may be made worse by colleagues' behaviour, according to the building society's 'Workplace Woes' report, that stated 27 million people are stressed out because of anti-social behaviour at work.
