Breakdowns 50 per cent more likely

Cars face increasing troubles on the roads due to poor weather forecasts, one insurer has said.

The first three months of the year leave cars vulnerable to breakdowns, according to More Than.

Among the causes of car trouble, flat batteries are the main problem, accounting for 32 per cent of breakdowns, More Than has said.

Cars that will not start amount to 15 per cent and these situations combined mean that drivers are 50 per cent more likely to break down in this period.

Managing director for More Than Mike Holliday-Williams offered advice to motorists, stating: "Drivers should be aware of the weather conditions when planning a journey, reduce speeds and drive with extra caution.

"In especially poor conditions, don't drive unless absolutely necessary."

Eight million UK drivers struggle to return to the wheel following a crash and suffer loss of confidence and panic attacks, More Than statistics showed recently.

Making improvements to cars and increasing insurance cover are also options to reduce the stress of breakdowns and to put drivers' minds at ease in the coming months.
