Brits 'should regain financial control' in new year
People who may have overspent over Christmas should start to think ahead for their longer-term financial plans, according to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
Insufficient planning for big events such as Christmas leaves people with a financial shortfall, the DWP has said, something which leaves people struggling to pay bills.
Over 50 per cent of people in the UK overspend at Christmas, with the north-east, north-west and Wales suffering from financial difficulties afterwards, DWP research revealed.
Susan Clark of Jobcentre Plus said: "Struggling to pay the bills after Christmas is a situation that many people find themselves in and it can be very stressful."
Gaining control of finances may provide a means of overcoming the anxiety that comes with overspending and one way to do this may be to take out a loan to consolidate existing debts.
The DWP recently revealed plans to create a new unit to tackle child poverty in the UK. According to DWP statistics, government measures over the last ten years have lifted 600,000 children out of poverty.
