Flying trollies and raining apples: what will they think of next?

Among some of the more interesting claims experienced by the AA last year are stories ranging from trollies taking flight to a downpour of apples.

The car insurance company reported that one driver experienced an unusual sight of apples raining down from a forklift truck, which shocked him and caused an accident, while another motor owner was surprised to see a flock of trollies fly towards their car, eventually ruining the bonnet.

Other amusing claims included a sneeze causing a crash into a church wall, a man falling asleep admiring a view and finding his caravan was being swept out to sea, and over 150 people stating that they were distracted by dogs.

Janet Pell, head of AA car insurance, said: "We're used to seeing the countless conventional claims for car damage but it's always interesting to hear the more bizarre claims people make.

"It just goes to show, you need to ensure you're covered for all eventualities, however far-fetched they might seem."

Last year the AA warned that from January 1st insurers would register drivers' details on the Motor Insurance Database within seven days, rather than 14, which may have led to confusion on the roads.
