Poor weather prompts insurance advice
Bad storms across the UK recently have prompted warnings over home insurance from one bank.
Homeowners have been advised by Sainsbury's Bank to ensure that their home insurance policies are sufficient to cover any potential damage done to their property in the coming weeks, when more poor weather has been predicted.
Steve Johnson, head of home insurance, said: "High winds and flooding have been seen across the UK in the past week, putting thousands of homes at risk of damage.
"As such, people need to be careful that their home is adequately insured."
The floods that occurred in summer last year were estimated to have cost £3 billion, making them the worst in recent years for damage claims.
Sainsbury's Bank has advised people to make decisions now regarding furniture, drains and keeping sandbags, in order to pre-empt any floods that may occur.
Last year Sainsbury's Bank estimated that nearly three million people mistakenly believe that they have to buy building cover from their mortgage providers in order to secure their mortgage.
