'More important than ever to be energy-efficient'
People in the UK have been advised that now is the time to make changes to their homes in order to make their homes more energy-efficient.
As a result of rising energy prices and changes in the environment, insulating roofs and wall cavities could save people money, according to the Department of Work and Pensions.
The government currently offer grants to elderly people who may need help in renovating their homes for this purpose, although many other people in the UK may have to make the changes to their properties themselves.
Phil Woolas, environment minister, said: "We're seeing energy prices on the increase so it's more important than ever that homes are energy-efficient.
"Insulating your home or improving your boiler can make a big difference to energy bills by stopping huge amounts of heat escaping and ensuring you use your energy more effectively."
Cheshire Building Society recently warned that homeowners should protect their homes against bad weather that was expected at the beginning of the year.
People thinking of making changes to their homes in order to improve energy efficiency may wish to take out a loan in order to cover the cost.
