Brits 'should drive a hard bargain'
People thinking of buying a new car following the release of the new '08 registration number plate should be sure to haggle for a better price, it has been suggested.
Motorists could save hundreds of pounds by trying to negotiate a lower price; however, only two-thirds of people in the UK would be willing to do so, according to esure.
Other tips offered by the insurance company for getting a bargain in the showroom include checking the value of their current car in order to achieve the best price in a part-exchange, while people are also advised to check the total running cost of the car.
"We're known for being a nation of bargain hunters and are always out to get the best deal - but when it comes to buying a new car so many motorists are failing to put the theory into practice," Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting for esure, commented.
"It's crucial for all motorists looking to buy a new '08 plate to do their homework, shop around for the best deals and be both confident and clued-up in front of a salesperson - or else pay the price," he added.
According to research by the company, British motorists are a likely to experience a third more accidents in the winter months.
