'Drive down risk of accidents' through car repair
UK motorists are becoming increasingly complacent when it comes to addressing faults with their cars, according to new research.
Over 23 million people are said to be putting their lives at risk by failing to take their cars to be repaired, despite the fact that they are aware of the problems with their vehicle, esure has claimed.
The insurance provider conducted research into drivers' repair habits and found that people ignore the warning lights on their dashboards, some due to financial concerns.
Meanwhile, nearly half of motorists would prioritise spending their money on leisure activities over their car; however, this may have disastrous results.
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure, said: "Driving a car with a fault - no matter how small it may be, could potentially increase the likelihood of having an accident or breakdown."
When it comes to buying or insuring a new car, esure has advised drivers to shop around for a personal loan rather than opt for dealer finance in order to save themselves money.
