Holidaymakers 'should protect their homes'
Homeowners planning a holiday should be sure to protect their homes against theft, according to the AA.
There are a number of ways in which to do this, the insurance provider has advised, including ensuring that the property is secure.
Ian Crowder, public relations manager for the AA, explained that this includes closing all windows, cancelling papers and getting a neighbour to check the post.
People should also be sure to check with their insurance provider before travelling, Mr Crowder added.
"Check your policy to see how long you can leave your home unattended - various insurers have various terms," he said.
Depending on the length of travel, terms of insurance may change, Mr Crowder commented, going on to say that if the homeowner is going away for a long time, they may be asked to provide a guarantee that the house will be regularly checked, for example.
According to Liverpool Victoria, nearly 15 million people in the UK leave themselves open to the risk of burglary by leaving possessions on display in windows.
