Home insurance 'will help recovery from natural disturbances'
The need for home insurance has been highlighted by the recent earthquake experienced in the UK, it has been claimed.
According to Abbey statistics, the biggest quake to hit the country in 25 years led to over 1,000 insurance claims within the first 12 hours alone.
Despite the fact that 200 earthquakes take place in the UK each year - although nearly all of them out at sea - one in four households remain uninsured, according to the bank.
Tony Beckwith, director of Abbey Insurance, commented that insurance is a must to protect homes.
"Like the floods of 2007, it is hard to prepare your home for unexpected incidents like [yesterday's]
earthquake," he said.
"These incidents can dramatically affect the structural safety of a home, but with a good insurance policy that offers comprehensive protection for your property, your ability to recover from the unexpected will be a lot easier."
The bank's statistics show that over the past five years 11 per cent of British homes have been damaged by turbulent weather.
