Car accessories 'increase insurance premiums'
Motorists in the UK have been warned about the increasing cost of car insurance for their vehicle accessories.
Research conducted by Confused.com has shown that insurance quotes can increase by up to 182 per cent, or £1026.42, for car modifications alone.
Will Thomas, head of car insurance at the company, explained that such ad-ons are becoming more popular with younger drivers, who should be aware of the possible consequences of modifying their car.
"Adding spoilers and tinted windows, for example, can not only dramatically increase car insurance premiums, but they can render car insurance void in some instances," Mr Thomas said.
"It also needs to be considered that adding modifications to your vehicle can greatly depreciate its value when selling it on."
Motorists continue to drive while using their mobile phones, according to other research by Confused.com, something that may also affect people's insurance premiums.
