Cars 'becoming more integral to British life'
Cars are playing an increasingly integral part in the life of most Britons, with drivers clocking up more miles per year.
Motorists are driving the equivalent of travelling around the world more than 20 times over the course of their lifetime, or over 507,000 miles.
According to a poll by comparison site Confused.com, driving work, supermarket trips and UK holidays account for around 8,756 miles every year per driver, while commuting for work is responsible for a hefty 3,442 miles per annum and weekends away and holidays in the UK account for 556 miles a year.
Debra Williams, managing director of Confused.com, said: "The survey shows just how much we all rely on our cars for transport and demonstrates how integral cars have become in our day to day lives."
Motorists shopping around for a car finance loan in order to purchase a vehicle should ensure that they find the best available deal and choose a good model if they are spending long periods each year behind the wheel.
New car buyers will be looking next month to buy cars with new 2008 plates and are advised to select their finance deal carefully, as they could waste up to £950 each on repayments, according to moneysupermarket.com.
