'Boy racers drive up insurance premiums'
Male UK drivers are more likely to have higher car insurance premiums as a result of the 'boy racer mentality', it has been claimed.
When men pass their driving tests, their insurance premiums tend to be higher than that of women, according to Confused.com.
This highlights the fact that the 'boy racer' mentality still exists in the UK, Debra Williams, managing director of the price comparison website, asserted.
Ms Williams pointed out that men are two and a half times more likely to be convicted of a driving offence than their female counterparts.
She said: "Although men's premiums obviously decrease with age and experience, they always remain slightly higher than women's."
In 2007, some 2.3 million men received driving penalties, compared to 920,000 women, Confused.com's research has shown.
