Budget airlines 'may not be cost efficient for family holidays'
People considering going on holiday this year should be sure not to take the cost at face value, it has been advised.
This comes from the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), which has suggested that people looking to cut costs on travel by looking to budget airlines might be disappointed.
Sean Tipton, press officer at ABTA, pointed out that such airlines may not be good value for money for families, since, once a child "stops being a babe in arms" they are subject to adult fares.
Traditional or charter airlines on the other hand, tend to offer reduced fares for children, he said.
When booking a holiday, Mr Tipton advised that people should "look at all the other considerations, don't just look at the headline price of the ticket".
"It might look very cheap but once you add on the fact that, if you're travelling with small children, you're going to need a heavier baggage allowance which is very limited on the no-frills carriers," he said.
According to a recent Rough Guide survey, Virgin was found to be the most child-friendly airline.
Taking out a loan may be a good way to boost finances for a great family holiday.
