Tenants 'should have adequate contents insurance'
People renting a property should invest in stronger security as it can help reduce home insurance premiums, according to an insurance provider.
Andrew Lowe, head of Direct Line home insurance, is urging individuals to look into stronger household security as insurers can charge higher premiums for houses that inadequately protected or in high crime areas.
Mr Lowe also said that tenants should contact landlords to ensure that the best security measures are in place and that a wise move would be to invest in "quality locks for doors and windows".
He added: "If you are renting, you should ensure you have contents insurance which covers the full value of your belongings. Contents insurance is often a lot cheaper than you expect."
A survey undertaken by Moneysupermarket.com in March 2008 found that 40 per cent of homeowners in the UK do not have any home insurance cover.
